Ham and Mushroom Braid
This recipe can be made using either wholewheat and wheatmeal doughs - but I'm a bit naughty, and I still prefer the rich milk bread mixture.
Rich Milk Bread
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
25g margarine or butter
100g mushrooms, chopped
100g cooked ham, diced
25g fresh breadcrumbs
salt and pepper
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1 beaten egg
Make the bread dough as per the instructions for Rich Milk Bread.
for the filling, lightly fry the onion in the margarine or butter for 1-2 minutes. Add the mushrooms and ham and fry until the onion is soft but not coloured.
Remove from the heat and add the breadcrumbs, seasonings and sauce and bind with the beaten egg.
Leave to cool before using.
For the finish brush the surface of the braid before baking with milk or egg wash.
