Chili Con Carne


1 kg of mince (ground beef)

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 onions, thinly sliced

1 green pepper, chopped

500g tomatoes, chopped

2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

chili powder to taste

2 cloves garlic, crushed

500g tinned kidney beans


Heat the oil in a saucepan. Saute the onions and green pepper for ten minutes.

Add the meat and cook over a medium heat, stirring constantly, until browned.

Mix in the tomatoes, salt, pepper, chili powder and garlic. Cover and cook over a low heat for 1 1/2 hours. Add a little water if necessary.

Add the beans, taste for seasoning and cook for 15 minutes longer.
